When the weather gets cold like this, I love to make home-made fresh soups and stews. I made a really good "left-overs" soup the other day. I had frozen the juices from the "apricot and ginger" glazed Turkey I had made for the Christmas Party. Then you know the weird parts you get when you buy a whole chicken - the neck, livers, hearts and butt part... I had some of those in the freezer so I cooked those. (I always cook the meat before adding it to soup.)
Then I added brown rice, carrots, peas, green beans and corn. And I cooked it all up. Its a really yummy soup.
A home-made broth is so much better than the store-bought canned broths. It makes me want to cook a turkey just to get the broth to make soup.

Oh, and yes, the apartment manager took care of my flooded carpeting from the rain...and my apartment is back to normal.

I have been trying to play catch-up and see all the Golden Globe nominated films. So I headed over to the Beverly Center on Monday to catch some matinees. Now the Beverly Center has teensy-weensy screens, which everyone I know hates. But on the weekdays, they have $6.75 matinees, which kind of makes up for the small screens. Since I have the week off due to the holidays, I thought I would catch two movies since they were so cheap.
The first movies I saw was "Kill Bill".
Uma Thurman(amazon, ebay)is up for Best Actress.
Yes, I do think Quentin Tarantino's (amazon, ebay) movie are great ... but I have to admit I get squeemish when there is alot of blood involved. So...I had put off seeing it. Kill Bill is a really good movie, but theres tons of blood. And Uma Thurman is really great in it.

So to get the massive amount of blood out of my mind .... I went to see "Cat in the Hat" starring Mike Myers(amazon, ebay).
Now I had put off seeing Cat in The Hat because I had read so many bad reviews. And I have to admit as much as I love Mike Myers as a comic actor, the reviews were mainly right. I really didn't find it as offensive as some of the reviewers did, but I just didn't find it all all funny. I really didn't even think it was "cute". (If you want to see a "cute" movie, got see "Elf" with Will Ferrell(amazon, ebay), now that was a cute movie, and funny too.)

It is always interesting to me to see Actors in a variety of roles. I had just seen Alec Baldwin(amazon, ebay) in "The Cooler" where he plays the evil casino owner. He is in "Cat in The Hat" as the evil boyfriend who lives next door. These two movies really shows me what an outstanding actor he is both in comedies and in dramas.

Last but not least, I send my wishes to you and yours for a Happy New Years !

A New Years Eve Poem

by Donna Grayson

A New Year is around the corner

A new dream is in your heart

For a new year and a new beginning

Time for a change and a new start

Make your new resolutions

Toast the end of the year with champagne

Just remember...God will always be with you

That is one thing that will never change
