The Da Vinci Code - Movie Review

Well, after walking around the beach all morning, I was exhausted. But when I took a shower, I woke right back up. So at 10 pm, I headed over to
Arclight Cinemas to catch The Da Vince Code .

I had listened to the book on tape when it first came out, so I was already familiar with the story.

The book was very confusing to me, I found it hard to follow. But I think the film was made in such a way that it was less confusing. Such as when Tom Hanks is going over the code, the letters or words highlight themselves as he goes along.
Or when he is thinking through a problem, there is an impression of it that appears before him. All this makes it easier to understand.

As for the acting, I thought both Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou were good in their roles. But I think the stand-outs for acting in this movie are Paul Bettany and Alfred Molina . Bettany sure has a difficult role as the monk who is after Hank's character.

Also, I consider myself Christian and the movie and book didn't bother me. It is just Fiction after all, or just one person's idea. I like the fact that the movie leaves you thinking about religion and the meaning behind it, and shows that the people in the film believe in their faith very deeply. There are many scenes that address Jesus' Divinity and Humanity, and I think that is a good thing thing to show a movie audience.

So there are a lot of issues in this movie that will really make you think about Jesus and religion. And it is very much a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The Santa Monica Pier & Promenade

Had some relatives stop by from out of town. We ended up walking around the Santa Monica Pier .
They wanted to see the ocean.
Then we went down in the sand. But the water was to cold.
so we stayed in the park, and watch some squirrels living on ocean-view lots.

Then we walked around the Third street Promenade and had lunch.
Also, stopped in Border's coffee shop and had an icey slushy coffee drink with lots crumbled chocolate cookies in it.
yummy yummy

Broken Trail

I saw a preview of Broken Trail at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.

This is a wonderful story about two cowboys played by Robert Duvall and Thomas Haden Church , who decide to do the right thing when they find five Chinese women who are being forced into prostitution. They take care of these woman as they are traveling cross country with a herd of horses. It really is a story about doing the "right thing", and taking care of other people, even though they may be a different race than you. I thought it was a very uplifting story, with a strong moral lesson.

I especially liked the beautiful scenery, and the scenes with the horses running wild. It was just gorgeous. I am glad I got to see it on the big screen of a movie theatre, and not just on a TV set. It was beautiful. I think this could easily have
been a theatrical film release because the way it is filmed, and the scenery and horses, it is all breathtakingly beautiful.

Outstanding acting performances by Robert Duvall and Thomas Haden Church. I also liked Rusty Schwimmer as Big Rump Kate, the woman who is buying the girls for her prostitution house. It was great to see a character actress in such a strong role.

I was really thrilled because Walter Hill did a Question & Answer after the screening of this movie. It was a great event to be at. I was so happy that I got to hear Walter Hill speak, and that I got to see this wonderful movie up on the big screen.

This will be on AMC TV June 25 and June 26.

I highly recommend that you catch it. On a TV with a larger screen, if possible.

Back To Church

I keep saying "I'm going to find a new church to attend".
And then on when Sunday morning arrives, I just roll over and go back to sleep.

Today I went a visited my "old" church, Oasis Church on Wilshire Blvd.
I attended there a few years back.

The thing that inspired me to go there was the fact that they have a one o'clock service.
Yep, one o'clock in the afternoon ...
I can sleep in and still go to church.

I ended up actually buying a CD of the sermon before I left.
The music is sometimes alittle loud for me. But I really do enjoy the sermons.
