Donna Recommends

I just got finished reading a new acting book, An Agent Tells All .
I really enjoyed this book. First, there was alot of useful information about the business of acting in it. You know, headshots, auditions, agents, managers - and all sorts of very useful info. So I really learned alot from reading it.
But also, the author is a Talent Agent so he has alot of very interesting stories about his job. Some of the best stories were about when people auditioned for him.
If you are interested in the business of Acting, I recommend that you get a copy of this book.

Oscar Sunday

As I left church on Sunday Morning, I could see how crazy Hollywood Blvd was getting. The Oscars were definately here. There were traffic and parking signs all the way as far back as Vine. The Good Year blimp had risen over the Kodak Theatre early in the morning. And from my perspective in thechurch parking lot, it looked almost perfectly aligned with the Church Steeple .

I headed home right away. No glamorous parties for me. I was got a pizza and glued myself right in
front of the TV set starting about 3:30 for the pre-show Red Carpet entertainment.

The design of the stage, was the prettiest I have ever seen. I loved the video screens in the floor, and in the squares above the stage. And if you are wondering what those glass panels were about on the Red Carpet ... I know they looked like bullet-proof glass. But I am sure they were there for protection in case we had one of our California Downpours, and all the people in their evening gowns had to seek shelter from the rain.

The first time they presented an award in an aisle, I cringed. But then I realized they were doing it for the "lesser" awards ... And this morning's Los Angeles Times noted that the reason for this was so that all the nominees got some screen time in honor of their recognition. That was a wonderful idea. It is great that we actually got to see the faces of these honorees who got the recognition that they deserve.

My favorite comment from Chris Rock was "Next time we'll be giving out Oscars in the parking lot... Pick up your McFlurry and your Oscar ... drive on through." Oh, yeah ... they do have those green St. Partrick's Day McFlurrys at McDonalds ... I saw an advertisement for one the other day. Green milk shakes ... yuck.

Then I watched part of Barbara Walters , and the after-Oscar shows where all the Movie Critics and Fashion Designers are
making their comments. And I managed to get into bed at an almost-decent hour.

Then this morning I got my cell phone messages ... a friend left me 6 messages. They were actually down on Hollywood and Highland Blvd, trying to get a peak at the stars.
They sounded like they were having a alittle to much fun, and I heard mention that Vodka was involved. This same friends swears that last year he hung out on the escalators of the mall there, and watched all the sad losers go down to the parking lot after the ceremony. But this year, they were locked out, and they couldn't even get anywhere near the corner of Hollywood and Highland , it was comletely blocked off. Oh, well, sounds like the Vodka was helping them have a good enough time anyway.

Its not my cup of tea to go down to the cermonies and be a star-struck looky-loo . I enjoy watching the actual ceremony way to much, and wouldn't miss the televised broadcast for the world.

Friday and Saturday Excitement... and Oscar Picks

Last night, Friday, the short, One Man's Trash, was honored at the IndieProducer.net
gala. We were chosen as on of the top 10 short films for 2004. This is from submissions of over 200 short films. So it is very much an accomplishment and honor.
The event was wonderful. The highlight was when actor Andy Garcia was honored with an acheivement award.
I had such a wonderful time. And it is so wonderful to be recognized for all the hard work that was done on this film

This morning, Saturday, I spent it at the Egyptian Theatre volunteering . There was a seminar with all the Film Editors who are up for Oscars for Film Editing this year.I was "Captain", so I had to hang out in the lobby and did not get to see the seminar. But from what I did hear, it was fascinating.

Then I spent my evening at The Arclight seeing The Aviator
What can I say ? It is an amazing and spectacular film. I kind of wish I had live in Hollywood during the time of Howard Hughes, Jean Harlow, and all those glamorous stars.

Now I have seen almost every movie up for the major Oscars . So... here are my picks:

Best Picture
My Guess to Win .... the Aviator
My personal favorite .... Sideways

Best Director
My Guess to Win .... Clint Eastwood
My personal favorite ....Martin Scorsese

Best Actress
