Folco Quilici at the Aero

Volunteered tonight at The Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.
They were showing two films by Italian Director Folco Quilici .
Brother Sea and The Marble Empire.

I know I have said before that I am not much for foreign films.
But there was a Champagne hour after the movies.
And I was very interested in the champagne.

And its always a fantastic event, when the director is doing a Q&A afterwards.

So it was a fun and social event for everyone, with extra bubbles.

Ice Age The Meltdown

I must really have wanted to see Ice Age the Meltdown . A friend had free passes to a early morning screening out in Westwood.
Thats 9:30 am.
Its easy to wake-up when you really want to get there.

So off I drove to Westwood for the 9:30 am screening.
Turned out there was a bunch of construction going on Wilshire Blvd. And I missed the entrance to the theatre parking. I had to drive around the block, and come back up. By the time I arrived at the parking, there was a huge line of all us last minute people.

I arrive at the theatre. My friend runs up to me.
"Oh, Donna - you missed Jon Cryer . I know how much you like him."

Ugh. Bummer.

We go in to get seats. Now that I am going the Flickr thing, I carry my little powershot in my purse every where.
The security guards were collecting cell phone cameras.
And I am an honest person.
"Oh, here - you might want to hold on to this too" I say, taking the powershot out of my purse.

Three security guards in complete unison "OH MY God ! Its a Camera ! OH NO ! We need that !"
I'm looking at them thinking "Ok, calm down."
They place my cell phone and powershot in a little plastic bag, and give me a ticket.

My friend is holding seats, and we get settled along with the one zillion children in the theatre.

I decide that I don't care if its 10 am in the morning, I will need Popcorn for this movie.
so I go to get in line at the concession stand.
And who am I standing in line right behind ? Jon Cryer
Who is holding his child as they wait in line.
Right in front of me.

Oh, yes !!!!
This is such a good day.

I review the situation. He is talking with his child about some of the movie posters hanging in the lobby.
I decide its really not a good time to interrupt.
Its not a professional event. And he's spending time with his kid. A Family moment. And I am way to polite.
So I just evesdrop and look in his direction every now and again.

Let me say at this time, one of my top ten favorite movies is Hiding Out from 1987.
If you haven't seen it, you need to rent it.
At a video party back in the early 90s, I made my friends rent it. No one really wanted to watch it. After it was over, they all turned to me "That was really good ! We are glad you suggested that movie."
So take my suggestion, and rent that movie.

Back in my seat, I tell my friend that I am so happy because Jon Cryer was in line right in front of me.
And I was polite, and didn't speak to him.

Finally Ice Age the Meltdown starts. I LOVED it !
can I say "I Loved it !" again and again.
A movie for both adults and children. Very funny. Great comedy lines.
Cute characters. Hysterical.
And so worth arriving in Westwood at 9:30 am.

It may be one of those rare movies that I see twice.

Afterwards, we walked around Westwood. Stopped in at Elysee Bakery for lunch. I had a wonderful chicken sandwich.

So it was a very good day - or should I say morning - out in Westwood.

Friday Volunteering

Volunteered over at The Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.

The movie tonight was Zabriskie Point .

I was Volunteer Captain for the evening. Which meant I hung out in the lobby to help the staff, and I didn't go in to see the movie.
Gee, between my Head Cold, and being Captain - I've been to the movie theatres alot, but I haven't seen many movies.

Well, they give us a free voucher to see another movie when we do this, so it all works out.

Angie Dickinson at the Egyptian

Volunteered over at The Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
This time, I actually got to rip tickets. Something I hardly ever get assigned when I'm volunteering in Hollywood.

My cold is now almost completely gone.

I stayed and watched the movie Point Blank.

There was a Question and Answer afterwards with Angie Dickinson .
She had some great stories to tell, and she looked fantastic.

Seeing her, reminded me of the time I went out to see the movie Dressed To Kill .
Afterwards, my friends dropped me back of at me apartment in the Mar Vista section of West Los Angeles.
I walked into the two bedroom apartment on the ground floor - to find someone had tried to break in.
The screen was off the kitchen window, and they had started to pry the window open.

At the time, I had one of those roommates who was never home.
I ended up sleeping with all the lights in the apartment on for about 2 months.

My landlord did put better lighting in the walkway by the window.
But when a one bedroom apartment became available on the second floor, I moved.

But I don't think I will ever see Dressed to Kill again.
Its a scary movie in itself. But whenever I think of it, I am reminded of the time my apartment was almost robbed.

Family Matinee

Today was a Family Matinee of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea over at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.

I was volunteering as Captain, which means I hung out in the lobby for the movie and helped the Theatre Staff instead of going in to watch the film.
Their first question to me, knowing we were all sick on Friday was "How are you feeling today?"
"Well... I just emerged from a 12 hour Nyquil induced coma." I answered.
"Oh."

My drug of choice today again was the Sudafed. It worked for the running eyes.
I was up to a full tablet now.
I waited until all the Nyquil was out of my system.
Heaven forbid I should mix drugs, especially during a family matinee.

I really enjoyed being in the lobby during the movie. I haven't really been around masses of children since I taught Sunday School at Church last summer. And its fun just to watch them run around the lobby.
I have to say, Santa Monica children are very well behaved.

I had hoped to stay and catch the evening show once my shift was over. But that didn't happen.
I need to go home and crawl back in bed with the kleenex.
Another day of "no movie for me and my cold".
