Amazing Grace

Over at the Arclight this evening.
I wasn't really sure what I wanted to see. I just arrived in the lobby, and stood there looking at the marque.
I decided on seeing "Amazing Grace" .
I am so glad I picked that movie !!!
Very inspirational and moving - and it made me want to go out and save the world.

Just one warning - it is an English Period Drama taking place in the 18th century - you know, the types where the male characters are wearing white wigs and the female characters are in long poofy dresses. So if those kinds of movies are boring to you, then grab a big cup of coffee before you go, but I recommend that you still check it out.

William Wilberforce leads the fight to end slavery in 18th century England. The movie shows how he basically had to teach English society as to why it was wrong to capture and ship slaves to England. The movie also shows the physical pain he was in while he lead this fight. He suffered from the stomach ailment colitis . And the only thing to treat it back then was Laudanum , which is made from opium.
He was also the founder of Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, though the film only briefly touches on this.
William Wilberforce is a man who did alot of great things in his day.

Its a wonderful movie, the acting was outstanding. And the costumes and 18th century period setting was perfect.
I highly suggest that you go see this movie, to learn about an important piece of history, and to learn about William Wilberforce.

After the movie, I decide to look up William Wilberforce on the internet.
I ordered the book, 365 Days With Wilberforce from Amazon.com. This is a daily devotional book, of Wilberforce's writings.
It arrived just a few days after I ordered it, and I find his writings very inspiring.

Then I went to the the Los Angeles Public Library website, and placed "holds" on the following books:
Real Christianity
William Wilberforce, God's Politician
Amazing Grace in the Life of William Wilberforce

Amazon.com has many more books about and by, William Wilberforce.

Here are a few other links about the man and the movie:

and
IMDB.com

Roman's Restaurant

Lunch was at Roman's Restaurant in Hollywood.
Their website is alittle loud with a big "boom" and then music, so don't let it scare you.
But their pressed wraps are delicious. I had a beef stroganoff wrap, and it was yummy. They take the beef stroganoff and put it in a tortilla-like wrap, and squish it on the grill. Very good.
I also like their coffee bar, a delicious pastries, cookies and bars.

Back to work

Yeah, I am back to work today !
Still coughing and hacking .... but no more fever, and at least I had the energy to get out of bed.
I made sure I had plenty of cough drops and kleenex - and headed back to the office.

I was just happy to be out of the house, and back in the land of the living.

You Tube and Hercules the Cat

Other things to do when you are so sick that you can't get out of your pajama's ...
or in my case, its pajama bottoms and an big t-shirt ...
You can surf around YouTube.com....
I found these videos about a Big Kitty.

Part One:
First, he was found stuck in a doggy door and taken to an animal shelter
The animal shelter named him Goliath .. this is the video when they were trying to find his people
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eLIMc4khe0

Part Two:
But his real name was Hercules .... this is the video when the owner claimed him - its a touching story, because his person has cystic fibrosis. So it is wonderful that he found his big kitty.

I wonder what Cinnamon the Cat would think about this ....

After Hours Care - and the Flu

I missed Thursday and Friday from work. And I even stayed in bed all weekend, except for one trip to the grocery store for kleenex and cold/flu medicine.

But this morning when I woke up, I still wasn't going any where.
At first I told my boss, I would be in that afternoon.
Then I called back at noon to say I was going to the doctor.

So off I drove to After Hours Care location.

Basically, I went in saying "I think I have the flu."
And I came out with the Doctor saying "You have the flu".
But he did give me a prescription for drugs. Some super-duper cold medicine.

And... after he took a look a my records, and saw that I had just had bronchitis in December - he ordered a chest X-ray.

Since I seem to be having a chest xray every few months - after having radiation treatments for cancer in 2005 - I really was not to happy about having another chest xray.
I said "You know I just had a chest xray in December."
He said "Yes, and that one was clear, so lets do one now, just to make sure."
And I was way to sick to argue about it.
But this chest xray was clear too.

He also gave me a note, putting me out of work until next Thursday.
That means, it is only March - and I will have used up all of my sick days for the year. No more left.

I stopped off at Rite-Aid to get my Super-Duper cold medicine.
And there were some pills that were way to big for me to even think of swallowing.
After I saw the bottle, I said to the pharmacist "I can't swallow these."
Since they can't be ground up, he recommended some over the counter items that did the same thing.
But I was starting to weaken from being out at the doctors and then the pharmacy.
I just took my Super-duper cold medicine, and went home.

I took the Super-Duper cold medicine before I went to bed for a few nights because it helped control the cough.
Believe me, I have never had dreams this weird.
Something about Shakespeare and a horse floating in the air. That was the first night.
After the third night - a psychedelic dream with lots of revolving colors - I decided to go back to good old sugary cough drops.
