Church Service Notes

Notes from Saturday Evening Church Service at Church on the Way .

Psalm 66
Luke 5:33

We need to decide if we are going to move forward, or retreat.
God wants us to move forward even when things are difficult for us.

Have a Vision of the New.
True renewal in our life.

New = Needed
Don't go for New, just because its new. Look for what needs to be changed.

Things to Desire:
1. Pruning. Cut so we will produce more
2. Refining. Purge and Purify
3. Burn as Chaff - Chaff is on wheat, and it protects the wheat. But chaff has to be removed in order to make wheat. Things that are unnecessary.
3. Circumcision - Cut away at the excess of our heart - callousness, hardening
4. Flooding - Saturated with God. God will refresh heart, and areas of dryness will be saturated.

There is no such thing as a "Holy Ipod".

I've decided to elaborate on the comment "Holy Ipod" - it really struck me as so humorous and so true. Now that those new Ipods are out, everyone wants one.
Even I want one. But to be realistic, if I was to spend money on computer stuff - there are so many things I need that are more important, a new printer, a scanner, a digital camera, a flash drive. But when I see the Ipod ads, I really want an Ipod.
It is just so funny how we desire the "cool" things - when the we really need to pay attention to the practical things.
We gravitate towards what we want, when we need to concentrate on what we need.

Saturday's Quotes

More quotes from the great author Florence Scovel Shinn .

The Game of Life is a game of boomerangs.
Man's thoughts, deeds and words return to him sooner or later with astounding accuracy.

The more a person knows, the more he is responsible for.
And a person with knowledge of spiritual law, when he does not practice it, suffers greatly in the consequence.
The fear of the Lord, is the beginning of wisdom.

Obedience precedes authority and The Law obeys Man, when Man obeys The Law.
The law of electricity must be obeyed before it can become a servant. When handled ignorantly, it becomes mans deadly foe.
So it is with the Laws of the Mind.

There is no peace or happiness until you erase all fear from your subconscious.
And Perfect Love casts out all fear.

You pick up a Live Wire when ever your criticize or condemn - and you can expect a shock.

Wisdom of Florence Scovel Shinn

I am reading a great book, by a great author, Florence Scovel Shinn .
What is amazing is that these books were written about 1925. And they are still relevant today.

Here are some tidbits:

A Meditation from her book:
I have a wonderful business in a wonderful way
And give wonderful service for wonderful pay

If you want to be a successful actor, I changed the meditation to this:
I have wonderful talent in a wonderful way
and I perform wonderful acting for wonderful pay

Here's an interesting quote about cancer:
False Growths are caused by jealousy, hatred, unforgiveness and fear.
Every disease is caused by a mind not at ease.
Unforgiveness is the most prolific cause of disease.

And a great thought:
Love and Goodwill will destroy the enemies that are in oneself.

The Radiologist

Today was my appointment to interview the Radiologist.
I have to start investigating having radiation to my left breast. If I start soon, there is a good chance I will be done before the Christmas holidays start. Its worse enough I will have to do this over Thanksgiving. But I definitely don't want to
be doing this over Christmas. And I want to make a whole new start in 2006.

One thing I do when looking for a new doctor, is I notice how they treat other patients.

As I was in the waiting area filling out the paperwork, there was another lady there. Maybe 10 years older than me.
She sat and waited.
A technician came out, and sat next to her.
"Mrs. Smith - I notice you are always a half hour early for your appointment. Would you like to change the time? And move up the schedule?"
Mrs. Smith said yes, she would - because she takes the bus, and that is the time the bus arrives.
The technician said no problem, they could give her an earlier appointment time.
Well, I thought that was very nice.

Next a woman sat next to me. She told me that she is the Social Worker there.
The Radiology place has a Social Worker ? Well, thats kind of nice too.
She asked me if there was anything non-medical she could help me with.
I mentioned about not knowing how tired I would be after my radiation treatments, and wondering if there was a shuttle bus available.
She said "Oh, thats exactly the type of thing I would help you with."
Then I told her, that I had turned down chemotherapy, but was thinking about the radiation. But that I was really interested in alternative treatments and options.
She was very interested in this, and said she had pamphlets and flyers for me.
When I was finally finished with the doctors appointment, she met me in the lobby and gave me all sorts of brochures.
Some of which were about The Wellness Community.

Soon the doctor came out himself to get me, and shook my hand. We walked back to an examining room.
I sat on a chair, and he sat on a chair across from me.
All in all, we spent a good hour and a half talking.
I asked him all sorts of questions. From very detailed - how much radiation? How do you know it won't reach my heart ?
What are the side effects ? Will it make me tired ? Will I be able to work?
To the very silly question: If I am having radiation, will my cat be able to sit on my lap? She won't get radiation from me will she ?

He answered all my questions in detail. And I think he was actually enjoying it. He seemed to be a pretty good teacher.
He was enjoying all the technical descriptions he was giving me.

I told him that I have a big annual event on Friday the 21st. And I wanted to start the radiation after that, so that I would be done before the Christmas holidays.

Later on, he left while I changed into alittle smock. The nurse came in the room with him as a chaperone.
They seemed very interested in the music company that I work for.
"I'm sorry, I can't get concert tickets." I half-lied.
And they were very interested in the Annual Event next Friday, and all the movie stars I would see.

He did a Breast Exam. Then told me to change into my clothes and left again.

After he came back, we discussed my vitamins: 1 multi-vitamin, flax seed oil, Co Vitamin Q10, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Grape Seed Extract, Calcium/Vitamin D/Magnesium and Lysine.
He said that I am taking alot of anti-oxidants. And then he explained in detail to me what antioxidants will do to the Radiation they will give to me :
It will make it ineffective. Or basically, kill it.
So you can't take antioxidants while having Radiation. Or the Radiation won't work.

So next time someone tells you "Oh, you just pee out all those vitamins you are taking."
Tell them, "Well, Donna's Radiologist told her that antioxidant vitamins are powerful enough to kill radiation administered by a hospital."

Just think what those vitamins will do if you drive under a power line, or stand in front of the microwave.
Pretty amazing.

Tuesday Vitamin Run

Oh, dear I am almost out of Co-Vitamin Q10.
So I ran over to VP Nutrition to pick some up.
Got more multi-vitamins. And a Coral Calcium/Vitamin D/ Magnesium mix.

I spent alot of time in the store looking at all the bottles.
VP Nutrition is one of those health-food stores with everything under the sun.
I love this place.

Ha-Ha Funny

A friend sent this in an email:

YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2005 when....
1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.
2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.
3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.
4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.
5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.
6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.
7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.
8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.
10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.
11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )
12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.
13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.
14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.
15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list.
AN NOW U R LAUGHING at yourself.

And.....

Saw this on one of the mailing lists I belong to:

Ordering pizza in 2010

Very funny !

The Health Food Store

Yeah, its Sunday - but I went into the office to make up some time from last weeks Doctors Appointment.
Then after work, I drove over to Whole Foods Market .

Now Whole Foods definitely is not the closest market to me. Its a good 25 minute drive each way. But I don't know of any other places close by where I can get a big selection of Organic items.

So when I go there, I usually stock up. I buy alot of stuff all at once. I think this time I had about 5 bags.
And my bill was unusually large, because I bought a bunch of organic lotions and organic shampoo.
AS I was checking out, the grocery clerk almost forgot to put my vitamins in my bag. The cashier saw it and put the items in.

Then I drove home, lugged the groceries upstairs, and started to put everything away.

Wait a minute - wheres the Thai cabbage rolls I was going to have for dinner ? They aren't there.
Oh, no the organic no-salt corn chips - where are they ?

I got out my grocery receipt and went down the list.
I had four out of five bags.
There was entire bag of groceries left all the way back at Whole Foods.

I called the store. Yes, said the Manager, the bag was still at the store.

Oh, as tired as I was, I had to get in the car and drive back.
Then I remembered that I had forgotten Dish Washing Liquid. Once I got there, I bought some.
The Manager showed me my bag, sitting on a table in a corner. "Its over there", she said not bothering to stop what she was doing.
I took the bag, and went home for the second time.

I should have made a bigger stink. It was their fault the bag wasn't put in my cart.
They should have offered to give me a free anything to make up for my loss of time.
