Well, to begin with...the rain came down so hard it flooded part of my apartment, and the apartment next door. The area that got flood is right behind my computer. I didn't notice it at first, so I'm surprised I didn't get electrocuted.

I ran into the girl next door and she told me her apartment got flooded in the rain. So I decided to pull out all the furniture, and thats how I found it. I guess the water leaked through the windows or something. So now the cleaning
people have to come and try to clean up the mess of the carpet.

I did make it to The Egyptian Theatre to see "The Pink Panther". They are having a "Pink Panther Christmas" and are showing all the Pink Panther movies. Its really a cute, funny, slapstick comedy.
A total comedy classic.

Then I also caught "American Splendor". Hope Davis is nominated for a Golden Globe as best supporting actress.

My most favorite movie so far..."Something's Gotta Give". It was so funny. And a really great funny romantic comedy. It just leaves you with the "feel good" feeling - very upbeat and happy. And I have to admit, anything with Keanu Reeves is my kind of movie.

Diane Keaton (amazon,ebay)
Frances McDormand (amazon,ebay)

The wind is blowing hard, and it is freezing cold outside. Los Angeles is in for a rough winter.
My apartment stinks from the flooding from the rain. I'm burning incense to get rid of the smell...

The nearest snow is 60 miles from here
And roasting Chestnuts
Don't perfume the atmosphere
But I love Christmas in L.A.

There's never been such a day
in Beverly Hills, L.A.
But it's December the twenty-fourth
And I'm longing to be up north
I'm dreaming of a White Christmas

Thanks to today's Los Angeles Times for the above California themed Christmas carols.

Except ... today is the first Christmas in 10 years where its rained in Los Angeles. And let me tell you, it is pouring !
Time to heat up some hot chocolate.

In search of a movie yesterday that was not sold-out or overly crowded. I went to see "The Cooler".
Both Alec Baldwin and Maria Bello are up for Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actor and Actress. They are outstanding. But how did William H Macy not get nominated as Lead Actor ? He is outstanding as well. Maybe because his character is the good guy ? I don't know... its an over-sight. Makes you wonder how they figure these things. William H. Macy is nominated as Supporting Actor in Seabiscuit, which he does deserve as well. I just think he should have been one of the Best Actors for "The Cooler".
Alec Baldwin is great as the bad guy, an old-fashioned mobster type casino owner who still believes in breaking peoples legs. Maria Bello is incredible as the cocktail waitress who falls in love with Macy's character.
A very adult themed movie (its rated R) with nudity. But the acting performances are all first rate.

Silent night
Holy night
All is calm
All is bright
Round yon virgin
Mother and child
Holy infant
So tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night
Holy night
Shepherds quake
At the sight
Glory streams
From heaven afar
Heavenly hosts
Sing alleluia
Christ the savior is born
Christ the savior is born

Looking for a fun, romantic, upbeat holiday movie ? "Love Actually" is it.

Set in London during the weeks just before Christmas, the numerous story lines follow people through the holiday and they find love and find what is important to them.

An outstanding cast:
Bill Nighy (amazon,ebay)
Hugh Grant (amazon,ebay)
Colin Firth (amazon,ebay)
Liam Neeson (amazon,ebay)
Alan Rickman (amazon,ebay)
Emma Thompson (amazon,ebay)
Laura Linney (amazon,ebay)
Keira Knightley (amazon,ebay)
Billy Bob Thornton (amazon,ebay)
Rowan Atkinson (amazon,ebay)

Love Actually is up for Golden Globes for Best Picture - Comedy and Best Screenplay.

The one thing about the Arclight Cinemas is that the website will tell you if a movie is ending that week. As in "Must end Wednesday". I soooooo wanted to catch "Love Actually", so when I saw it might be ending, I ran over to see it.

So many new movies are starting on Christmas Day, its going to be hard to choose just one.

Okay, we all stood around for like 10 minutes while the building swayed during the earthquake. All they tell you to do if you are in a high-rise is get to the center of the building, and get under a table to avoid falling objects. Not much else you can do. We read on the internet news a few hours later how bad it was farther north up the California coast.

I finally got the Post Cards for the Jan 3rd screening of "One Mans Trash" out in the mail this morning. 300 to Casting Directors. The problem is that alot of the entertainment industry close their offices between Christmas and New Years. So I don't know if they will receive these in time before they leave for the holiday. Anyway, I am really looking forward to the screening on the 3rd.

Over the weekend, I went and saw "Bad Santa" starring Billy Bob Thornton(amazon, ebay). I wanted to see it but noticed the local Mann Theatre at the Hollywood and Highland Complexwas only playing two shows at night. Then after the Golden Globe nominations came out, and Billy Bob Thornton was nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy, the theatre added more shows. The theatre was really packed, almost sold out. I was running late to begin with. Then the kid in front of me at the concession stand didn't have enough money for his popcorn, and his brother had to run and get more money. All I missed were the trailers. "Bad Santa" was really funny, and Billy Bob was hysterically funny as the boozing cussing stealing Department Store Santa. Definately leave the kids at home for this one. Its a raunchy comedy with a holiday theme for adults.

EARTHQUAKE !!! Oh, how not fun to be on the 17th floor in Hollywood. We rolled and rolled like we were out on the ocean. My boss said it reminded him of his last vacation cruise.

I haven't posted since last Thursday. With the holidays pretty much here, things are getting pretty busy. There's so many last minute loose ends to tie before Chrismas is really here. I am trying to avoid the Malls as much as possible, but sometimes you just can't. This year, I ordered alot of my gifts online from Swiss Colony.

I saw Kenny Rogers(amazon,ebay)
Christmas Show at Universal Amphitheater . This is festive holiday show for the entire family. There were lots of familys attending. The first part of the show was traditional Christmas songs. The second part of the show was an originaly musical play written by Kenny Rogers, complete with dancing and singing toys. I highly recommend that if the show is in your town next year, you go see it, especially if you have children. It really is a Christmas show everyone can enjoy.

Then I spent all night Friday, and the morning of Saturday cooking for The Egyptian Theatre's Holiday Volunteer party. I love to cook, and I really don't get alot of opportunities to cook for alot of people. I signed up for cooking the turkey. I was hoping to find a 22 pounder, but the largest they had was only 17 pounds. So I saw Ham was also on sale, so I got a pre-cooked ham as well. I was cooking forever, but I really enjoy it.

Here are the recipes I made:

Apricot Glazed Turkey
- very tasty, it got lots of compliments. After the turkey got cooking, I just turned the oven down to 250, and went to bed. I glazed it in the morning when I woke up

Dried Fig and Apricot Stuffing - except I used white raisens in place of the figs

Pineapple Glaze for Ham - this was very easy, and very tasty. Also, a good Easter recipe.
