Soda Pop

Tonight, I saw a play at The Ark Theatre in Los Angeles.
The play was Soda Pop" - a funny musical set in the 1950s at a Soda Shop.
It was really fun, with alot of music from 1950s.
Made me want to look into some of that old music from the 1950s, and starting playing some of those old records - er, I mean CDs.

Fantastic Four - Rise of the Silver Surfer

NameI saw the movie Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer.
It was over at Arclight Dome Theatre in Hollywood .
I love the Dome, if you are coming to visit Hollywood, I highly recommend seeing a movie in the Dome.
Its beautiful inside, and the screen is huge.
Its the perfect screen for a summer blockbuster like "Fantastic Four".

Breakfast and Books

In the six years I have lived in Hollywood, I have never been to the IHOP on Sunset Blvd.
So after dropping off some books at the Library on Sunset and La Brea, I decided to give it a try.

Frankly, that part of town is not one of the best areas. And there is a bus stop right in front of IHOP so I always see strange people there.
But the IHOP itself is really nice.
There is plenty of free parking in the back. And inside the restaurant it is very nice.
They gave me that big pitcher of Coffee - so I drank to much caffeine. Fresh Orange Juice ...
And I got the Mushroom and Spinach Omelet - which had real fresh spinach and real fresh mushrooms.
Very tasty.

And I remembered to bring my vitamins with me. So I took those with my breakfast :)

NameI am reading the book "It Works for Me: Celebrity Stories of Alternative Healing" by Heide Banks.
Its a very interesting book, with true stories of what alternative treatments celebs use for their health.
I think it gives a good overview of different alternative practices, for a variety of different health problems.

Dinner - and You Kill Me

Name

After work, it was out for dinner.
House of Pies in Los Feliz - Cod, a baked potato, and steamed veggies.

The over to the Arclight, to see "You Kill Me" starring Starring Ben Kingsley and Starring Tea Leoni and Luke Wilson .

Its a dark comedy about a Mob Hit-man, who has to start going to Alcoholic Anonymous Meetings.
I thought it was very funny for a dark comedy. Tea Leoni is great as the brooding romantic interest of Ben Kingsley.

I hope people get a chance to see this, and that all the Hollywood Summer Blockbusters don't knock it out of the movie theatres to quickly.

Oposums in the LA Times

Opossum
Today's article in the LA Times , just made me laugh.
It was Opossums: your garden's evening clean-up crew.

It said they are gentle creatures that eat snails and fallen fruit...
When I lived in Venice, 12 years ago - we had a entire opossum family in our backyard.
They look kinda cute until they hiss at you.
Being hissed at by an opossum is not fun.

Big Party

Friday will be my boss's last day. And the Payroll department, and the Tax Department are all leaving as well.
Friday will be the last day for about 6 people. They all got laid off.
Eventually we will all be laid off.
All of the jobs are going to another state.

We all chipped in and bought my boss a Digital Picture Frame . Then someone brought in their camera and took pictures of all the employees which were uploaded into the memory chip.
It really made a nice Going Away Gift.

Then this evening the company treated us to a party.
There were trays and trays of appetizers.
Stuffed potatoes, little quiches, some kind of little fried roll thing.

I'm usually a pretty picky eater - there are certain things I won't touch.
Tonight I just ate whatever.
Its the first time in two years that I have eaten Bacon. It was in the stuffed potatoes.

Mango Mojito
And from the downstairs bar, I ordered a Mango Mojito .
It was so delicious. Yummy mangos... and mint... and 10 Cane Rum .
First time in two years that I have had hard alcohol.

Later when I was in the upstairs bar, they didn't have any mangos.
So I got a regular Mojito, but it wasn't the same, and I couldn't finish it.
I had to go back downstairs and get another Mango Mojito.
I drank a total of 2 Mojitos.

Mango Mojitos are now my favorite alcoholic drink.
But it will probably be another two years before I drink any more hard alcohol.
They say with every alcoholic drink, your risk of cancer recurrence rises 10%.
So thats why I avoid it.
But tonight was a special treat, considering all that is going on.

Colin Farrell Shops At My Ralphs

I love reading The Defamer.com. Its almost an addiction, I read it everyday
on my lunch-break.
I really love the Privacy-Watch Section.
Regular every-day people, email in stories about seeing famous, and not so famous, celebrities in every-day places.
Its really a fun section to read.

So I look at todays section, and there is a story about Colin Farrell at the Hollywood Blvd Ralphs' Grocery Store .

When I am to lazy to drive to the Whole Foods on Beverly Blvd. - this is the Ralph's Grocery Store that I go to.
And I have never seen Colin Farrell there.
And believe me, I look - not necessarily for Colin Farrell - but I look at people.
Because sometimes you do spot somebody.
Especially the people when its late at night, its dark out - and they are wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses.
I really stare at them, because I figure they are probably on a TV Show I don't watch.

Vitamin order

Whenever I buy something over the Internet, I have it delivered to my office.
If it is delivered to my home, it will just get stolen.
Doesn't matter if they leave it with a neighbor, at my front door, in the mailbox - doesn't matter.
If its a package, its gone.
My daily newspaper subscription gets stolen too... but thats another story...
So the box arrived at my office with my vitamin order.

I ordered from Vitamin Shoppe , but you can also get them from Amazon.com .

Jarrow Co Enzyme Q10
TwinLab Daily Two Multi- Vitamin
Natures Way Vitamin D, Calcium and Magnesium
Twin Lab Omega 3 Fish Oil
Hobe Natures Grape Seed Oil (for skin care, especially good if you have ever had radiation treatments, helps to heal the skin)
Nature's Gate Organic Deodorant - Mandarin Orange Patchouli Scent. I like this better than most natural deodorants I've tried - it has less aloe vera, which I am allergic to. And I like how it smells.

Sunday Lessons and Movies

Church this morning was at Hollywood Presbyterian Church .
And after that it was a quick trip to Whole Foods on Beverly.
I made a huge salad from their salad bar... and brought it home while I updated my Zazzle page .

Then I volunteered again tonight at Egyptian Theatre , for Crispin Glover's movie "What Is It?".
I was ticket taker, and then I got to go in and see the movie.

One of the more interesting questions I was asked tonight as ticket taker was "Do you think we will be offended by this movie?"
I guess the woman who asked me that works with Disabled people and thats why she wanted to see it. But it an experimental movie, and its not to some people's tastes.
I tried to explain that the reason some people find it interesting is that there are Disabled people who are cast in roles that are not necessarily written for Disabled people... and that is explained more in the Question and Answer that is given at the end.

If someone asks that question - Will They Be Offended - its difficult to answer.
Because first, I think if you are going to a movie and you think that the movie might be offensive itself, its best to research it more on the internet before you go. And second, if you are the type of person who is picky about what they see so you have to ask that question- well, its probably best not to see it. Go see something else instead.

As for me - do I get offended ? Yes, alot of things offend me.
But I have developed a Method.
Most scenes in movies are over with in a few minutes. And then its on to the next scene.
That is any movie you see these days - in any movie theatre. Big Hollywood Blockbusters, as well as small independent films.
So I have learned to close my eyes. Listen to the dialog. Then open my eyes again when that scene is over.
If its to bloody or gory or sexual for my taste - just close my eyes.
And when I open them again, its a whole new scene.

All in all, I liked the movie "What Is It?".
And if you knew me personally, you might be surprised by that - especially if you noticed the first paragraph in the above blog entry notes I started off the day at church this morning.
But, I think there are many underlying messages, and if you are okay with Experimental Films I think you could find this a very interesting movie - if you look for messages underneath the plot.

As for closing my eyes - there were a few scenes to sexual for my taste, and so I closed my eyes.
And I absolutely do not like needles - so any scenes with injections - well, I had to close my eyes or I'll just pass right out.

The Q&A with Crispin Glover after the movie... almost everyone who saw the movie stayed for the Q&A.
It was almost like attending a Master Class in Independent film making. I got the impression many of the people in the audience wanted to be doing what he is doing - making their own type of movie, with their own creative expression, and independently distributing it themselves.
There was alot of learning and teaching going on.

I think Crispin Glover gave one of the Best Q&A sessions I have ever heard at The Egyptian.

I desperately wanted to stay and volunteer for the Book Signing that was going on in the lobby afterwards.
But the Q&A was going on forever, and it was close to midnight.
So I had to tell the theatre manager I could not stay - tomorrow is a work day.
And I had to take off.

Here's a link to the official Crispin Glover Website.
