Hi ! It so hard to believe Fall is here. And now that I live in Hollywood, the weather is so much hotter than when I lived near the beach. It is hard to get used to the change in weather. I actually had to go buy a ton of hair products because my hair was drying out. I did not expect so many changes moving inland. From Redondo Beach to Hollywood is only about an hours drive - but what a difference! There is good news to report - and very sad news.
First the good news. I found a wonderful job in the Accounting Office for The House of Blues . It is really a great place to work, and I love my new job there. One of the perks is employees can see the shows for free. In August, I took a few of the other volunteers from the Egyptian Theatre to see one of my favorites - The Monkees! It was such an amazing fun show. We all had a great time ! If the Monkees ever come by your area, I recommend going to see them perform. Its just like they were back doing their TV show, and it brings back such memories!
Speaking of TV shows, I got to go see a taping of the tv show "Just Shoot Me" starring David Spade. It took nearly 5 hours, but was fun to watch. It is interesting to see how they put together a weekly sitcom. If you want to get Sitcom tickets, I highly recommend TV Tickets.com.
I have been in Hollywood 6 months now, and it seems like I just moved here yesterday. I am finally starting to appreciate the city life around me. I found two great churches to attend. One is Hollywood Presbyterian Church, which has a great fellowship/social group called Brick. The other is Media Fellowship which focuses on being christian, keeping your morals and values, while you are in the entertainment business. Both are helping me get adjusted to the new city life around me.
Now for the sad, sad news. Even though I found an apartment that allowed pets, and paid a deposit and moved in with my dog - Diamond, my dog for 9 years, just did not want to be a city dog. He was 11 years old, and after living near the beach his whole life, was jumpy and frightened by all the city noises. I tried everything - doggy antidepresants from the vet, a dog trainer, and had dog walkers come by during the day. All he did was cry and howl, and was very depressed. He lived his whole life in a house by the beach, and just could not handle city apartment living after we moved. I took him back down to our vet in Redondo Beach, and they found a wonderful animal adoption service that got him a great new home with an elderly couple. Needless to say, I cried for weeks. And even now, after he's been gone 4 months, I still cry over having to give him away. But I know that it was best for him, and he will be much happier in a house where it is quieter for him in his old age. I am still adjusting to being without my dog. Many of my friends have cats, and I am preparing myself to adopt an older cat from the shelter very soon.
My email is still kind of crazy due to the DSL service. I need to still get my email software up and running properly. It is on my "To Do" list. But please email me and let me know how you are doing. I will email back from my AOL account.
Until next time,
Until next month,
Donna
