1/2 cup butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 egg yolk
1 square unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 and 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/3 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup canned cherries, or maraschino cherries, chopped
Frosting:
1 and 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 Tbsp cherry liquid from can, or maraschino juice

In a bowl, cream butter and sugar until creamy
Add egg and beat will
Stir in egg yolk and melted chocolate
In a bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt
Add flour mixture to creamed mixture, and blend in buttermilk until all are blended well
Fold in chopped cherries
Grease and flour a 9 inch cake pan
Pour batter into pan
Bake at 350 about 50 minutes
Let cake cool for 5 minutes and remove from pan
Make Frosting:
Combine powdered sugar, and cherry juice
Glaze the cake and dust with powdered sugar
