Looks like my "monthly newsletter" is turning into a "whenever I get around to it Newsletter". I haven't updated since
last April - and I am so, so sorry ! There is just too much going on in the city of Los Angeles and it keeps me way to busy. Then, I had a horrid computer crash. I was without my computer for nearly a month while it was being repaired. Turned out that they couldn't fix it, so they had to reformat my hard drive. I lost everything, and all my websites had to be downloaded from the internet back to my hard drive. I don't have everything back the way it was yet. And its very tedious to rebuild everything. |

Of course, there is always my volunteering at The Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
I just got finished with the Mods and Rockers festival that they have every year.
This time was very touching, because fans came to pay their tributes to John Entwistle
on the day they showed The Who
Films
The Kids are Alright. The movies were planned right before The Who played at
The Hollywood Bowl. It ended up being a very meaningful day. It is wonderful to see fans showing their respect for a great
rock legend.
Other great films the Egyptian has shown recently are "Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan" , "Jaws", "Carrie" and "The Matrix" . I have to say seeing "Jaws" on the big screen again made me realize why it is such a classic - I was on the edge of my seat just like I was back in the 70s. And of course, seeing The Matrix again - Keanu Reeves is one of my favorites. I also attended the Andy Warhol Exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. If you get a chance to see this exhibit in your hometown, I highly recommend it. I got the headset tour, and it was very interesting listening to the different discriptions of the artwork, and stories of what was happening at the birth of pop art. One of the Egyptian Theatre volunteers, Maryam Dalan, put on an excellant show at the Lillian Theater in Hollywood called "Lock Up". I was House Manager for the 3 week run, and that in itself kept me pretty busy. Live theatre is always so exciting, and it was great to be a part of such an interesting and timely play. |

Yes, I have been keeping up with my New Years Resolution to read more. My first recommendation is
The Los Angeles Time Newspaper. I have a daily subscription, and if I don't read it in the morning, then I read it on my lunch break.
Besides keeping me up to date on the latest news, it contains my favorite Comic Stip Get Fuzzy
. Its the
story of a Dog, a Cat and their owner. This is a hilarious comic strip for Animal Lovers.
Ok, serious reading material. I just finished the critically acclaimed, Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Michael Chabon
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay . It is a rather long book, over 600 pages, but after
reading all the fastastic reviews I had to check it out. The story takes place in the 1930s and centers around Joe Kavalier, a Jewish
escape artist trained in the art of Houdini, and his cousin Sam Clay, a Gay Comic Book artist. Its a story about their life
and loves during the difficult time of history.

After that I was ready for some thing alittle more modern, so I picked up Rosie O'Donnell's book
Find Me. If you are a fan of this talk show host, I recommend picking it up, since it is a interesting
look into her life and how she deals with/helps her fans. Don't expect an auto-biograpy, but expect hear about what she
goes through behind the scenes of her celebrity life.
Another great novel is The Girl With A Pearl Earing by Tracy Chevalier. Taking place in Holland in the 1660s it is about a young girl who inspires Vermeer's painting. I found it very easy to read, but still filled with interesting history. |
I have been listening to The Cars Complete Greatest Hits over and over.
Also Stevie Nicks Enchanted, the box set. Also Bob Dylan's Love and Theft
and The Black Crowes Greatest Hits. I like to listen to a variety of music at the office - it helps the day go quicker.

What movies haven't I seen ? I am trying to stay as current as possible while still catching the classics at the Egyptian.
I have to admit, I love the Summer Blockbuster. It is great to get lost in an amazing adventure. Men in Black
, Austin Powers
,
Minority Report
, The Bourne Identity
, Divine Secrets of Ya Ya Sisterhood
, and yes, even Scooby Doo
and Adam Sandler's
Mr. Deeds
.
All these movies have started me working on a brand new website dedicated to movies only. I am working on it, but who knows when it will be done. Every time I sit down to the computer there is more and more to add. Ooops, which reminds me.....I have to dash now and catch the next screening at the Hollywood & Highland Mann theatres!

Until next time,
