Funny moment at Target

The other day, shopping at Target on La Brea and Santa Monica Blvd.
I looked in my basket and I had:
Nails
and
Nail Polish.

Of course, the nail polish was not for the nails - the nail polish was for my finger nails.
Sally Hansen Maximum Growth Plus in Vanilla Whimsey.

The nails were for hanging a Tapestry that I bought on Ebay
from Full Moon Loom
.
Its black, blue and purple with stars and moon designs.
And will eventually be hanging on a wall.

As for the Nails and Nail Polish....
I was alittle embarrassed to bring just that to the check-out stand because it was
just, well, kind of weird.
So I found some earings on sale too.

Buck Rogers and Scarlett O'Hara

..

I just had the wonderful experience of seeing "Gone With The Wind" on the big screen at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences on Wilshire Blvd.

To start the night off, they showed News Clips of the Gone With the Wind premiere.
Very exciting to see a Clark Gable interview.

First, a wonderful panel discussion on Gone with the Wind and it included some of the child actors from the movie.

Then they showed the first in the Buck Rogers serial.
If you ever get a chance to see one of these, I really recommend it.
Buck Rogers' is a pilot whose plane crashes and he is frozen - until the year 2440 or thereabouts.
He then because an astronaut / pilot in the new time period.
The serials were made in the 1930s - so it is funny to see what they thought modern technology would look like.
For example, in the 1930s there was no knowledge yet of computers. So when the Scientists in 2440 have to look things up, they are still using Books.
This got major laughs from the audience.

And then the screening of the nearly 4 hour long "Gone With the Wind". Including intermission.
This is truely one of the most outstanding romantic movies ever made.
Gorgeous on the big screen.

Of course, I could go on and on about the Dysfunctional relationships in Gone with the Wind.
But I won't - its meant to be a dramatic romance and it sure is.
I'll just blame everything on Ashley - if he had married Scarlett, whom he loved - and not the other woman who was the perfect wife - well, none of this would have happened.
Ashley and Scarlett would have settled down to a crazy married life wrapped around her self-absorbed behavior, and everyone would have been happy.
Instead, everyone married people they didn't love - and its emotional torture.
Then of course there is Clark Gable as the dashing Rhett Butler - and its a major melodramatic romance.

I loved every minute of it !

Happiness is not the Destination

I saw a customized license plate frame on a car in the parking lot of Ralphs Grocery store
on the corner of Western & Hollywood.
The car was parked right next to mine.

It said "Happiness is not a Destination - its the means of travel."

I like that saying better than the belief that you have to be happy all the time.

A few years back, I had a friend who was always striving to be happy. She thought happiness was the ultimate experience.
She was very miserable in her pursuit of happiness, because whenever there was a problem in her life she became unhappy.
The she would become frustrated at not being happy - which made her even more unhappy.

I never really thought happiness was the ultimate goal.
Instead, there is a deep joy that comes from feeling fulfilled and knowing you are doing what you are meant to do in life.
And that begins with a belief in God, and a belief in things eternal.

Joy is different that happiness. And its possible that while having joy in your life, you'll have some down times.
But just because you hit a bad bump in the road - you can still have that deep inner peace and joy that comes from a place beyond what you can create.

Newport Inglewood Earthquake

Yes, we had an Earthquake today 5/17/09 at about 8:39 pm.
Magnitude 4.7 - which is a pretty good shaker.

I was doing some light housekeeping - and rearranging the books in my bookshelf.
It felt like someone picked up my apartment building by six inches and layed it straight back down.
Then we rolled and rolled.

Cinnamon the Cat just layed by her food bowl with a look that said "Are you scared? Am I supposed to be scared?"

I stuck my head out of my apartment, and there were plenty of neighbors in the hallway. It was the usual "Did you feel that?" conversation.

Nothing even fell over, but it was still a pretty good shaker.

In case you care what Miley Cyrus and Lindsay Lohan said on Twitter, I found this news article to tell you all about it.

And now would be a good time to check out the US Geological Survey for the map of all the most current Earthquakes.

And if you want to know what my fellow Zazzlers are saying about the Earthquake, check out this Zazzle Forum Post.
